Callejon de Hamel

Callejon de Hamel is a unique alley way designed by the artist Salvador González Escalona. On Sunday afternoons you can see performances seeped in African traditions and rhythms.

Cuba has become known for its modern Jazz. 

Every January Havana hosts the Jazz Plaza, a world famous Jazz festival. Or you can just relax in a cafe, soak up the atmosphere and listen to good jazz.

Private dance class at your Casa each day, customized to your level and style

Evening: visit to clubs and performances including the Orishas, Rumba, Son, Cuban Salsa, Ballet, Contemporary Dance and Jazz

  • Day One-Airport Pick up 
  • Orientation: Settle in at Casa Particular and get to know your neighborhood.
  • Day Two–History: Enjoy a guided Walking Tour of Old Havana, stop at a café and listen to a Son Sextet. Take an afternoon Tour in a 1950’s Classic Convertible. Have drinks at the Nacional Hotel in the garden with traditional music playing live in the background and catch an evening performance at a super-cool Jazz Club.
  • Day Three–Ballet and Contemporary Dance: Visit to the Alicia Alonso Nacional Theater (a white marble palace with red velvet seats) and the Alicia Alonso Dance Museum. Later attend an evening performance at the Theater.
  • Day Four-Afro-Cuban Roots:  Watch a rehearsal of The Rumberos de Cuba with a private lecture on the history and influence of Afro-Cuban culture in Cuban Music. Afternoon at Callejon de Hamel, an alley way filled with Afro-Cuban paintings and sculpture.
  • Day Five-Afro Cuban Dance or Percussion Class: Take a private lesson with Rumberos de Cuba or a members of the Conjunto Folklorico de Cuba. Visit a  matinee show with Clave y Guaguanco @ Patio Egrem.
  • Day Six-20th Century Cuban Dance and Music: Participate in a group class at Casa del Son in Cuban Salsa and Casino Rueda. Take in a matinee performance at Casa de la Music; where the hippest Cuban Salsa groups will get even the most sedentary up onto the dance floor.
  • Day Seven and Eight-Traditional Music in Trinidad: Travel to a beautiful colonial town where live music comes pouring out of every café. This is your chance to practice all you have learned or just sit back and listen.
  • Hike in the Escombray mountains, drink Canchanchara at one of the local cafes and take a bike ride out to the beach.
  • Day Nine- Return flight from Santa Clara airport.
